Now You Do Have Our Attention

Fizzler - Now We Have Your Attention EP

Fizzler were once described as "a party in your ears" and after seeing and sharing the same stage in another band with them several times since their incarnation in early 2012, it would be hard to disagree
that Fizzler weren't a band that shook any room they graced. Huge walls of down tuned, clashing guitars provide the soundtrack for their two (yes, two) angsty frontmen to give their take on life and everything in it. If the live insanity that Fizzler captivated their audiences was to be upheld through the release of their debut EP "Now We Have Your Attention" is a tough one to be seen.

Tracklist: -

The World Owes You Nothing (It Was Here First) - 3:16
Angel's Blood - 3:03
Stay Without - 3:33
Your Name - 2:19
10:59 - 5:13

As soon as the first track kicks in it is evident that Fizzler are a band that means business as the opening riff to The World  Owes You Nothing (It Was Here First) punches you right between the eyes. Somehow the track manages to provide a calming undertone with a slick use of transitions. As the pace begins to steady,  carrying the verse along well that punch between the eyes returns as the chorus and final section of the song grab you by the balls, screaming at you
that the next four tracks will make your ears bleed, in the best way possible. 4/5

Angels Blood shares very similar traits to the opening track in that it provides a heavy song to pump your fist too but builds on that by pushing the pace up that little bit more. A strong rhythm section and a unique bridge which is led by the sound of distorted bass and singer Lee Newman's gutteral screams makes 'Angel's Blood' one of the strongest tracks on the album. 4.5/5

On first hearing the opening riff to Stay Without, it is easy to dismiss it as a softer song which many of us would skip over to get right to the assault of noise and loud guitars that we want and expect. Stay Without manages to hold strong as a song which was written from the heart and holds emotional connotations within a band that on the surface just want's to party hard. It easily provides enough substance to keep those who look past the pretty lyrical work interested. 4/5

If  ever you felt the need to switch off from an album as it reaches it's climax, Fizzler provide the perfect solution. Your Name is without a doubt the highlight of the album providing a catchy melody and a chant worthy chorus in a gung-ho fashion. More often than not bands introduce that "killer" song that too early but Your Name is a track worth waiting for, even if it does travel and finish at a blistering pace, it will be a song you'll replay many times before you reach the final track. 5/5

10:59, while providing Adam Crockett to display his unique and melodic vocals in a different style, falls a little bit short of the other tracks. Every other song on this album, as I mentioned earlier, grabs you by the balls and refuses to let go but I feel that 10:59 doesn't really provide that thrill until a couple of minutes in. Nevertheless, the melodic first half of the song allows you to appreciate the talent and diversity that Fizzler can provide but I feel that it  just overrides it's stay. 3.5/5

Fizzler manage to achieve the live insanity in this well produced collection of grungy madness but also allows you to look inside their minds with thoughtful and powerful pieces that will be favourites of yours for some time to come. Whether you care for that or just want some loud thrashing guitars blistering your lug holes, Now We Have Your Attention can accommodate you.

Overall Rating - 4/5
